(RIO DE JANEIRO) — Thousands gathered in cities across Brazil on Sunday to show support for President Jair Bolsonaro, who faces an uncooperative Congress, street protests, a family corruption scandal and falling approval ratings five months into his term.
The stumbling start for the far-right leader who rode a wave of dissatisfaction with Brazil’s political class to victory led his backers to call for the demonstrations, which represented a mixed bag of demands and protests.
Supporters sang the national anthem and waved Brazilian flags while chanting the names of Bolsonaro cabinet members. Many said that Brazil’s institutions were not letting Bolsonaro govern. Some called for the closure of Congress and the Supreme Court.
“We need to clean out Congress,” said Neymar de Menezes, a 45-year-old construction contractor. “Unfortunately all the deputies there are compromised and all about deal making. Bolsonaro is fighting them by himself.”
Bolsonaro, who earlier in his political career said he would close Congress if he were ever president, told reporters on Friday he didn’t support calls to close institutions.
“That would not be good for Brazil,” Bolsonaro said. “That’s more Maduro than Jair Bolsonaro,” he added, referring to Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.
The call for demonstrations created a rift among Brazil’s conservatives. The president of Bolsonaro’s party said protests “don’t make sense.”
“For the love of God, stop with the calls for protests, these people need a reality check,” tweeted Janaína Paschoal, a federal congresswoman whose name was floated as a potential vice president. She said Bolsonaro’s biggest risk was himself, his sons and some of his staff members.
“Wake up! On the 26th, if the streets are empty, Bolsonaro will realize he has to stop with the drama and do his job,” she said.
Bolsonaro did not participate in the demonstrations. Speaking at a church service in Rio de Janeiro, he said demonstrators were on the streets to, “deliver a message to those who insist on keeping the old politics who aren’t allowing the people to be free.”
The idea for demonstrations in favor of Bolsonaro gained steam after tens of thousands of people across Brazil last week protested budget cuts to public education imposed by his government. Bolsonaro dismissed the student-led protests, calling their participants “imbeciles” and “useful idiots.”
It was the first mass street movement against the former army captain who took office on Jan. 1 and has seen his popularity steadily slipping. Roughly as many people now disapprove of his government as approve of it.
Pollster XP Investimentos said its poll showed 36% of Brazilians think Bolsonaro’s government is bad or terrible and 34% say it’s good or great. The firm surveyed 1,000 people on May 21-22, with a margin of error of 3.2 percentage points.
“Bolsonaro got off to a very bad start, especially in the first month,” said Sergio Praça, a political scientist at the Getulio Vargas Foundation University, referring to a corruption scandal involving his family.
Just weeks into his presidency, questions mounted over a report from financial regulators that flagged irregular payments in 2016 and 2017 between his son, Flavio, then a state legislator and now a senator, and his driver. Prosecutors suspect the payments are part of a common scheme in lower levels of Brazilian government in which politicians hire ghost employees who kick back portions of their salaries into the elected official’s bank account. Bolsonaro and his son ran on anti-corruption platforms — a large reason why many voters chose him over the leftist candidate from the scandal-ridden Worker’s Party.
Praça said things have not been looking up since then. Brazil’s economy is sluggish and its currency has weakened. Bolsonaro is struggling to make alliances in Brazil’s infamously deal-making Congress, which is preventing him from passing his agenda, including a desperately needed pension reform. Brazil’s pension system, which allows swaths of the population to retire in their early 50s, is the single largest factor contributing to the country’s deficit.
And, just as during his campaign and time in Congress, Bolsonaro is making headlines for controversial comments. In March during Carnival, he tweeted a pornographic video saying it was a warning to the nation of how decadent the celebration has become.
“The beginning of his government has been marked with uncertainty and confusion,” Praça said.

25 of the Most Breathtaking and Dangerous Flowers

25 of the Most Breathtaking and Dangerous Flowers in the World

BY ABBY HEUGEL

No matter how hard humans may try, they will never be able to match the beauty, mystery, and wonder that nature can provide. These 25 flowers prove that looks can be deceiving. Some are full of beauty but also poisonous, while others don’t look like flowers at all.
A monkey? An alien? You never know what you will find…

Bird of Paradise

Also known as the crane flower, this gem is the official flower of Los Angeles, which is odd, seeing as I thought it was the rose given out on The Bachelor. The Bird of Paradise is native to South Africa but common in floral arrangements, and is the go-to flower for ninth anniversary celebrations.

Flying Duck Orchid

If it looks like a duck and sounds like a duck, then it must be a rare orchid found only in the Australian wilderness. This tiny flower — usually only about 50 centimeters tall — has failed to thrive anywhere else because of a symbiotic relationship between the roots and a vegetative part of a fungus which can only be found in the wild country of eastern and southern Australia.

Angel’s Trumpet

The name sounds innocent enough, but all parts of this pretty little plant are poisonous when ingested. What can happen? Just paralysis, confusion, diarrhea, migraine headaches, visual and auditory hallucinations, and death. Oh, and those hallucinations? They have been described as “a powerful trance with violent and unpleasant effects, sickening aftereffects and, at times, temporary insanity.” In other words, not so angelic.

Flame Lily

The national flower of Zimbabwe, this unusual flowering plant is native to tropical regions of Asia and Africa and belongs to Colchicaceae family. Flame Lily usually grows as tuberous climbing plants and produces unusual red or yellow flowers with wavy edges. As Alicia Keys might say, “This flower’s on fire…!”

Bleeding Heart

Named because the pink-colored, heart-shaped flowers have small dangling tips that are compared to drops of blood, these plants are grown in various parts of the world for ornamental purposes. But warning! They’re poisonous to ingest and can cause skin irritation, so no rolling around in this one.

Abandoned Mansion in Belgium Has Been Neglected For So Long Plants Are Growing Inside

Built in 1908 along a corn field well off the main road, this haunting and potentially haunted house has been gradually reclaimed by its surroundings.
Once brand new and occupied, it has been empty long enough for all of the paint and wallpaper to peel off the walls and ceilings, which continue to decay with no signs of hope for restoration.
Broken windows and shattered glass line the floors, along with vines that have made their way in from the outside.

Local legends claim the home could be cursed, which explains why no one has tried to bring it back from the dead.

Os mais belos animais do mundo.

All animals living on earth are beautiful. The diversity on our planet is practically endless with different sizes, shapes, characteristics and colours. Thanks to the beautiful animals living in all environments, the world is a more pleasant, mysterious and interesting place.
AnimalWised wanted to discover the 10 most beautiful animals in the world, and we've found them. This doesn't mean others are not, but the following creatures stand out from the crowd. They are exotic and have an extraordinary kind of beauty.
Beauty is a broad and subjective term. If there is an animal that you think is one of the most beautiful but does not feature on the list, leave us a comment and we will take it into account for future articles.

    1. Macaws

Macaws are exotic birds inhabiting the rainforests of South America. They belong to a family of birds called Psittacidae. Their beauty is due to the combination of bright colours in their plumage: bright yellow, crimson red, green grass, blue king and orange are the main colours. Many people have macaws as pets, and perhaps that's why Ara araraunas are a species that must be taken care of in the natural environment.
Macaws are medium-sized birds but have large wings that attract lots of attention when they are spread. They are very social birds that love to walk in groups but they are the most beautiful in the air. It is fascinating to see a group of macaws flying. It looks like a drawing of a rainbow in the sky. They are definitely one of the 10 most beautiful animals in the world!

    2. White Bengal Tiger

The Bengal tiger is a symbol of grandeur and strength. Majestic in appearance, anyone in the presence of this creature will be left open-mouthed. It's not surprising that the tiger was the animal chosen to be the main character in many Greek, Persian and Chinese mythologies.
The mystery and mystique in their looks mesmerises anybody looking at them. Due to their genetic mutations, some Bengal tigers are born white... which makes them even more beautiful!

    3. Swan

The tale about the ugly duckling that became a beautiful swan is not entirely true, nor is it completely false. It is true that the swans are born beautiful white creatures, but, equally, when they are ducklings they are adorable and sweet looking.
As they grow and develop, swans become a totem of beauty and grace. Elegance and beauty are connotations that come to mind to most people when we observe a swan. They strike us with their beauty and they are clearly worthy of being among the most beautiful animals in the world.

    4. Albino peafowl

When I was looking for photos for this article of the 10 most beautiful animals in the world, it took me several minutes to choose the right one to represent the albino peacock. The white plumage that is white as snow and looks like a painting is very unique. This bird is a real supermodel, always posing, strutting their stuff and showing their beauty to all who pass before them.

    5. Dolphin

A dolphin's beauty goes beyond its bright physical appearance. Humans have always been fans of dolphins and have enjoyed their presence for years. Dolphins symbolise joy, freedom and spontaneity in such a controlled world. When you see a dolphin or, even better, a group of dolphins swimming and surfing the waves, your mood improves instantly. Dolphins look like they are always smiling. They are mood-boosting creatures! And it's all down to their delightful appearance.

    6. Mandarinfish

Electric, this is the mandarin fish, which seems to contain an internal light that makes it glow at all times. This fish is one of the most searched for creatures by underwater photographers so they can be captured on camera. Despite its own light, the mandarinfish is very shy and prefers to appear at night, when they go out to mate. Colloquially they are called Mandarin because they resemble the legendary Chinese dragons.

    7. Chameleon

Chameleons are the world's most beautiful reptile. Imagine being able to change colour depending on the circumstances, to make yourself indistinguishable - or to show off! Chameleons can change colour because they have pigment cells in their skin called 'chromatophores' that allow them to blend in with the environment, changing tone every time they want to hide from a predator or dress up for courtship rituals.

    8. Friesian horse

Friesian horses are elegant and magnificent animals. Entirely one color, these impressive animals transport you to mythical and indomitable territories. Originating from the Netherlands, the Friesian is one of the oldest domestic horse breeds in the world. Their ancestor the 'tarpan' horse, who was wiped out in the 20th century by the excessive human hunting, is known as the wildest horse in history.

    9. Siberian husky

How can we not include a dog in this list? The Siberian husky takes the award for canine beauty. Elegant white and grey furred animals with piercing blue eyes, they never fail to catch our attention. Their image evokes protection, strength and magnetism. And snow!

    10. Glasswinged butterfly

The glasswinged butterfly, or scientifically known as 'Greta Oto' is one of the strangest and peculiar butterflies in the world. The textile of their wings is transparent except for the edge which is brown. This makes them appear to change color, depending on which setting they are in. They almost camouflage against their surroundings. This exceptional ability makes them blend in with the vegetation and distracts predators.
